Republic Day Cookies

Republic Day was January 26th, so we decided to make some special cookies and cupcakes for the occasion. The only way to see pictures from the big military parade is by Internet or paper. No cameras allowed. The cookies say "Chak De India" which translates Victory to India. The others are the Hindi version.

Long time over due

We have now celebrated our three month anniversary at the bakery. In this general time frame we have seen lots of changes. Marc and Katie Mcilveen who helped out with the initial set up phase of things; construction, baking, office spreadsheets, everything you can imagine that needs to be done before and after you open up a business in India, are now back in Victoria enjoying the cold Canadian Winter. Sean and Lisa Furlong with their sons, Keon and Levi, are now in town. Sean is working on the office side of things and Lisa is working in the bakery when time allows. The office manager Rakesh’s wife had a beautiful baby girl, Suzanne Alex or Stuty meaning joy in Hindi, ON OPENING DAY. She was a month early. Not her fault. Also one of our helpers, Ganesh, decided to use his day off and get married. He did not tell anyone in the shop for three weeks. Never a quite moment here at Red Moon.

Both of our shops are now open for business! We opened our outlet in Greater Noida's Honey Money Top on the 15th of December, and the shop in Sarita Vihar we opened a few days later on the 17th. Both shops are doing well, and now that some flyers have gone out in the local newspapers, people are discovering us and trying out our products. We now have 10 employees, not including our two Canadian volunteers and our four owner-directors. Here at the Srita Vihar Shop for our local workers we have Pintu our sales guy in the front, Rakesh our operations manager, Imran our bakers helper in the kitchen, and Ganesh and Anwar our prep-bakers/cleaning guys. Marc and Katie McIlveen from Canada also work here at the Sarita Vihar Kitchen, Marc as a Baker, and Katie as a front-end girl/systems coordinator/prep lady/whatever else we can find to keep her busy. Running the store front in Greater Noida we have Anjuli, Hemant, Nela and Salam.

Here is a glimpse of the faces of some of the people previously mentioned. From left to right we have Ganesh, Rahul (who ultimately lived too far away and couldn't afford the commute), Anwar, Marc, Imran, David, Anna, and Katie. Pintu had already gone home for the day when this photo was taken.

This is the store in Honey Money Top in Greater Noida. On the left is Salam, center is Hemant, and on the right is Anna of course.

Our customer base is now growing steadily, and people are excitedly telling their friends and family all about this fantastic bakery they found in a little hole-in-the-wall place in Sarita Vihar. It is encouraging to hear such stories of how people find us, and how much they have enjoyed our products.

Thank you to all who have contributed in many different ways to the beginning of a successful venture.

Welcome to the Red Moon Bakery Blog!

Originally, to own a bakery in india was the dream of David and Anna Hambly from Canada and Saji and Bindu Oommen from the USA. Both couples have now lived in New Delhi India for the past few years, and have made their dreams into a reality.

Red Moon Bakery is a western style bakery dedicated to serving fresh, delicious, beautiful baked goods to its lucky customers! As well as passion for food, we as owners have passion for God and serving others. It is the desire of Red Moon to give people new skills, provide employment, disciple people as we work along side them, and to give our profits to the poor and to community development projects.

The production kitchen and a small showrom is located in South New Delhi, and another larger showroom is also located in a grocery store in Greater Noida.

There is so much to tell, so jump right in to our blog and see the photos of where we are, who we are, where we have come from and where we are at today!

Welcome!

As of this week, some semblance of production will begin. The construction workers have finished, and the power has been hooked up. Internet and phones are functional, and now the ingredients are ready to be ordered and delivered! We hope you enjoy the posts to come, and we look forward to your comments and queries.
